Insurance for your Quingo Scooter: Complete Peace of Mind

Hello and welcome back to the Quingo scooter users blog. In this blog post the Quingo team share some useful information about mobility scooter insurance and why it is so vital.

It is important that you enjoy yourself when out and about and that you benefit from using your mobility scooter as much as you can without worry.

Scooter Insurance offers you the peace of mind to do just that every time you go out. Whilst the law states that you are not obliged to have insurance, it is strongly recommended – both by the Quingo team and the Department for Transport that you do.

 Why get insured?

It’s all too easy to put off getting insurance and many people do but we strongly advise that you don’t. It is far better to protect both your investment and yourself and get covered right away. The process is very straightforward and our friends at First Senior Insurance will happily take you through the application process.

What does good insurance cover include?

Insurance should at minimum provide cover for you and your Quingo in the unlikely event of an accident, for theft and cover vandalism. In addition, check that the public liability covers the risk of potentially expensive personal compensation pay-outs!

It is also worth noting that, just as with cars, not all mobility scooter insurance cover is the same, so it is good to have an idea of what cover you should expect. First Senior Insurance who specialise in mobility scooter insurance have cover called Triple Star Insurance. Check that your insurance covers all these areas:

  • Accidental Damage Cover
  • Fire Damage Cover
  • Flood Damage Cover
  • Loss or damage caused by theft or attempted theft
  • Storm Damage Cover
  • 40 Day world-wide cover
  • Public liability up to £2 million
  • Temporary cover to loan equipment of similar value whilst your product is with the dealer/manufacturer
  • ‘Get-you-home’ expenses following an accident
  • New for old replacement if the damage exceeds 60% of the replacement value during the first 24 months, assuming product is new
  • No excess
  • No claims bonus scheme
  • Carer contingent liability
  • Temporary hire costs cover
  • Personal Injury benefit up to £2000
  • Personal effects covered up to £250
  • Loss of Key Cover up to £50
  • Any Driver

 Roadside Recovery Cover

You should also consider Roadside Recovery if you wish to avoid unnecessary worry. Punctures or mechanical problems for example are rare but should you ever find yourself needing help recovering your scooter and getting it and yourself home, it is well worth considering. First Senior Insurance offer such a service which provides a reliable recovery service 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Extended Warranty Cover

Any new Quingo in the current range comes with a comprehensive, 3 year Warranty so most new Quingo owners won’t need to worry, however for those with older models or those who buy a second hand scooter an extended warranty is for you. These cover your mobility scooter against unforeseen electrical and mechanical failure when the manufacturer’s warranty has expired. They provide you with peace of mind and multiple durations are available. Check that the policy covers all relevant call out charges plus labour and parts costs.

In summary, the most important piece of advice is to ensure you have insurance in place from the day you begin using your scooter and we can’t stress that enough. If you would like further help with anything relating to Insurance, Roadside Recovery or Extended Warranties please just call our customer service team on  01582 430 900

Quingo Winter Reviews Round Up

Here at Quingo Scooters we’re passionate about hearing our customer’s reviews and experiences! In this blog post we wanted to share some of our reviews left for us this winter. We’ve chosen one for every model, to give you the best insight in to which one could be the Quingo for you!

Air

“Very good information, verbal and written prior to purchase. The visit by the sales advisor was very informative, not at all pressurised and we had the chance to try before making any decisions to purchase – this is what drew us to Quingo. Excellent service and delivery was within 5 days once the purchase had been made. Various options for finance were available. The delivery person also offered excellent advice, made sure everything was in order and to our full satisfaction before the handover.

The Air is very versatile, does exactly what I need it to do, mounts low kerbs with ease and feels extremely stable. I use it to go for daily walks with my partner and our dogs. Prior to getting my Quingo Air I was becoming housebound, it gets lots of comments when I’m out and about with it.”

Vitess

“The sales reps were first class and explained every aspect.

In terms of the Vitess itself, in many ways it proves more economical than using the car for short journeys, and you don’t have to pay parking fees and park far away from where you need to be – especially with a range of 30 plus miles!”

Compact

“Very good service in all respects! The Quingo compact is just right for me and performs very well.”

Classic

“I was treated with respect and consideration with no pressure to buy. I even had to ask them if I could order one that day! All went well also with the follow up service, finance and so on.

I am pleased with my scooter – it feels safe and secure to drive. It’s so comfortable in use, I have no regrets in buying this product!”

Plus

“I found the salesmen and engineers first class in every way! The machine is great on pavement and road.”

Flyte

“Whenever I have contacted Quingo there was always someone readily available to answer my queries!

I’ve yet to test it out properly, however my early findings are first class! Getting over kerbs with the fifth wheel has been excellent.”

If you would like to share your Quingo experience with us, please don’t hesitate to contact us and let us know! We love hearing from our customers!

The Red Wheelies Part 3: Having a Ball!

Last week on the Quingo Scooter User’s Blog we reflected back on some of the amazing achievements of the Red Wheelies.Today we wanted to take you back to August 2010, when the UK’s only Mobility Scooter Formation Display Team took to the stage of ITV’s ‘The Michael Ball Show’ to promote mobility scooter safety on their trusty Quingos.

It was early September when a full compliment of Red Wheelies turned up at Television Centre to appear with Michael Ball. They soon got into the swing of things with in depth interviews with the host and a representative from Norfolk police who discussed the challenges surrounding scooter safety in public areas. The wheelies were invited to show the way on a test track, especially set up in the studio which Michael and fellow guest Brian Connelly would then have to complete.

Superintendent Jim Smerdon remained on hand to provide safety tips, but it was his police powers that were required by the end as Brian Connolly was jokingly ‘arrested’ for dangerous driving.

Michael said of the show himself on its Facebook page: “What a jam packed show, my new ambition in life is to be in the ‘Red Wheelies’, they are awesome.”

The Red Wheelies have been brilliant advocates for the day-to-day benefits that Quingo 5 wheeled scooters can bring to people with limited mobility – they prove that reduced mobility does not have to mean reduced lifestyle. Once again we would like to take this opportunity to thank them all for the hard work they have put in over the last 15 fun-packed years. You are still an inspiration to many and will continue be so.

The Red Wheelies Part 2 – Taking on Royalty!

Last week on the Quingo Scooter User’s Blog we reflected back on just a couple of the amazing achievements of the Red Wheelies, the UK’s only Mobility Scooter Formation Display Team, powered by Quingo.

In that blog we recalled how over the weekend of 14th-15th May 2011, the Quingo team joined forces with the Red Wheelies for thier 24 Hour Mobility Scooter Endurance Challenge in which they broke the Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered on a mobility scooter within a 24 hour period.

Royal Wheelie

Just a year after their tremendous achievement, the Red Wheelies invited HRH Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to be an ‘honorary member’ of their team in May 2012.

After celebrating their 150 mile trek from Winchester to Canterbury, the team wrote to invite the Duchess to join them after spotting a newspaper photo of her on a mobility scooter as she presented Afghanistan campaign medals to soldiers a few months beforehand.

Jackie Weeden, team leader of the Wheelies said at the time: “I couldn’t believe it when Carol showed us the letter from the Duchess formally announcing her as an ‘honorary member’.  We are delighted to be able to welcome the eleventh member to the team and proud that the Duchess of Cornwall has shown her support for our venture with a personally written response.”

The team were delighted when the Duchess wrote back personally, to say that she ‘was delighted’ to become an honorary member of the team!

The letter from Camilla was a highlight in a year that saw the Red Wheelies go on to tackle challenges bigger than ever before. Once again the entire Quingo team would like to thank them and their support teams. We were privileged to be part of the venture helping to raise positive awareness of MS.

Reflecting on the Red Wheelies

This week on the Quingo Scooter User’s Area we wanted to look back at some of the amazing achievements of the Red Wheelies, the UK’s Mobility Scooter Formation Display Team, over a series of blog posts.

Formed 15 years ago, the group set out to raise positive awareness of MS and performed regularly at various events across the country. “The Quingo’s are our legs” Jackie used to say regularly in interviews.

Over the years the challenges of living with MS grew, but so did their ambition and lust for life and so here we would like the thank all of them for their hard work and reflect on just a couple of wonderful memories of working with them.

Don’t Stop Me Now!

Over the weekend of 14th-15th May 2011, the Quingo team joined forces with the Red Wheelies for their first ever 24 Hour Mobility Scooter Endurance Challenge.

The Kent-based group of ladies rode a 20 strong fleet of 5 wheel Quingo’s in their successful attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest distance covered on a mobility scooter within a 24 hour period.

The mighty challenge took place on the tarmac cycle track at Fowlmead Country Park near Deal in Kent where the Red Wheelies broke the previous world record (88.04 miles) by totalling a massive 154 miles!

Their philosophy is that they might have to accept the odd limitation, but they can and do enjoy life to the full and still determined to prove that MS does not mean Must Stop.

Red Wheelies Have Talent

Moving on to 2014 and the Red Wheelies and their Quingo Vitess’s took to the stage at London’s Hammersmith Apollo to take part in one of the UK’s most popular TV shows, Britain’s Got Talent.

With the judging panel consisting of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alicia Dixon and David Walliams looking on the ladies displayed a mix of precision manoeuvres, slick dance moves and precision driving skills, all on their mobility scooters and a very small stage.

Performing to Shania Twain’s 1997 hit ‘Man, I feel like a Woman’, the performance received rapturous applause from the live audience and was put through to next round by 3 of the 4 judges, including the all-important Simon Cowell.

Making a show such as this inevitably means a lot of hanging around and logistical challenges but we take our hats off to all the ladies who coped magnificently throughout and still managed to put on the performance of their lives.

Bowing Out

Regrettably earlier this year, we revealed that after 15 exciting years, the Red Wheelies had decided to call it a day having realised their awareness goals and raising enough funds to help rebuild their local MS Therapy Centre.

Jackie Weeden, a founding member of the Red Wheelies from the outset, spoke to us back in May: “It’s been a fun, positive few years and we’re delighted to have raised a great deal of positive awareness about MS along the way. We’ve been together as the Red Wheelies for a long time now and it was getting harder and harder to organise everything. There’s a lot of planning behind the scenes with transportation and the like and costs were rising too.

Nevertheless we feel that we managed what we set out to do. It’s always been our philosophy that you have to focus on what you can do as opposed to what you can’t do.”

The Quingo Team are thrilled and privileged to have worked with such a wonderful group of ladies and not forgetting their trusty support teams. We sincerely hope this isn’t really the end but for now we wish them well and all the best this Christmas and for the future.

In the next post, we’ll take a look at which well-known lady was made an honorary member of the Red Wheelies…
